Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (Oct. 16, 2018) – Brian Brown highlighted last weekend’s doubleheader with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series by setting a new track record before recording a top-10 finish in the feature at Terre Haute Action Track on Friday.
“When you go there you’re not trying to say, ‘Hey, what’s the track record? I’m going to break it tonight,’” he said. “Qualifying is so important and track position is so crucial. Our focus was how can we set quick time. We concentrated on that. We were the quickest car hot lapping and in qualifying. It shows how good our engines are with Charlie Garrett.”
The night began at the big half-mile oval in Terre Haute, Ind., with Brown breaking the track record during qualifying. He then finished second in a heat race to advance into the dash. Unfortunately, Brown pulled the second-highest number – seven – during the dash redraw to line up seventh for the dash.
Brown picked up a pair of positions to finish fifth, which lined him up on the inside of the third row for the Wabash Clash A Main. Brown maintained a top five for most of the race before fading to a seventh-place finish because of a parts miscue.
“It was good to go forward in the dash,” he said. “In the feature we were running a solid fourth when we had an issue with our left rear bleeder. We gained a bunch of air pressure and we lost a few spots. Overall it was a really, really good night. Sometimes you can’t control things. The things we could control we handled well.”
The weekend concluded on Sunday at Eldora Speedway during the Last Call for Them All. Brown timed in 11th quickest in his group, but a rally from sixth to fourth place in a heat race earned a lock-in position to the main event. Brown capped the night by advancing from 14th to 12th in the feature.
“We were at the top of the board hot lapping,” he said. “For qualifying I decided to see if we could do some things to go even faster. My laps felt pretty good. We just backed our time up and didn’t go any faster and were 11th quick. I feel like we were good enough to set quick time. I just don’t know why we were that far back. That put us behind the eight ball.
“Eldora is really tough once you get in dirty air to make something happen. I didn’t feel like we were bad. It was just tough to get going. Michael and Nate did a good job all weekend. Chad had other obligations and couldn’t come, but he prepared a great car that showed off the trailer on Saturday.”
Brown will look to defend his home turf this weekend as the World of Outlaws will compete on Friday at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., during the FVP Platinum Battery Shootout before venturing to Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kan., on Saturday for the Outlaw Boot Hill Showdown. Brown won the race at Lakeside Speedway last year.
“This Friday is very important to us,” he said. “FVP, which has been a 10-year partner for us, is sponsoring the race so they’ll have a couple hundred people there. It’s important to run good. We’ll have a lot of friends and family and supporters that don’t get to see you run 50 times a year. Without FVP there wouldn’t be Brian Brown Racing. They are awesome. Hopefully we can go out there and have a good run and put ourselves in contention to repeat.”
