Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 10, 2018) – Brian Brown is bound for the 35th annual Kings Royal this weekend at Eldora Speedway.
Brown will tackle the $50,000-to-win World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event, which is held Thursday through Saturday at the half-mile oval near Rossburg, Ohio.
“We’ve been pretty good there,” he said. “I’ve got a couple of top fives. We were leading the Kings Royal when the hood blew off a couple of years ago. Our car is fast enough and I feel like I’m driving good enough. If we can have a little luck we can go there and contend for top fives and hopefully be in position to win one if not more than one of the races. These events are crown jewels that mean a lot to your team, sponsors and supporters. We’re looking forward to the opportunity.”
Brown is ready to rebound from a tough outing during the FVP Platinum Battery Showdown last weekend at Cedar Lake Speedway. He qualified 10th quickest, placed fourth in a heat race and ended 12th in the main event on Friday.
“Cedar Lake hasn’t been kind to us,” he said. “It’s a place we’ve struggled in general to find the handle. We qualified decent and ran fourth in the heat. In the feature we were running eighth, but we got tight late and I ended up 12th. We tried something different every time we hit the track and it had the same feel for me.”
Saturday ended on a sour note as Brown timed in ninth quickest during qualifying before a violent heat race crash ended the night early.
“We qualified a little better and I felt like we were gaining on it in the heat race,” he said. “Dominic (Scelzi), Brad (Sweet) and myself were racing for the second spot to make it into the dash. Going into turn one I got in there and it didn’t turn and went right to the fence. That was it. I got into the fence on the backstretch the lap before so I don’t know if something broke. It’s probably as hard of an impact to a dead stop as I’ve had. I’m thankful for my Bell helmet, my ButlerBuilt seat, my Maxim chassis, my Hinchman uniform; all the safety equipment did its job and we came out of it relatively unscathed.”
